Maximum Weight Deadlift

Essentially, you will have to hit a gym and figure out your limitations in order to advise your grader of your desired weight. I wonder, if you initially select for 340lbs and fail the 3rd rep, do you disqualify completely, or do you reset at a lower weight of your discretion?
